Under the ironwork

A counter in a Victorian market

Alto is a small counter at 22 South Great George's Street, inside George's Street Arcade — the Victorian market hall that opened in 1881. Its sage-green fascia and slab-lettered sign sit right under the arcade's cast-iron arches.

The counter serves coffee, breakfast, brunch and lunch, seven days a week. Sandwiches sit labelled in a glass case, with brownies, traybakes and rocky road in the case beside it.
